Cortes do Reguengo Tinto 2020, produced by Família Cardoso at Quinta do Reguengo in the Douro region, has won the "Best in Show" category—the most prestigious award at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2025. Scoring 97 points, this Portuguese red is one of just 50 wines selected for the exclusive "best of the best" group on a global scale.
The tasting note published by the organizers highlights "an inner freshness that surprises... it is easy to foresee an evolution toward more savory notes over time. Despite all this density, nothing here is overwhelming—though it is, without a doubt, a wine made for food pairing."
This year, among the still red wines awarded in this category, Cortes do Reguengo Tinto 2020 is one of the few representatives from the Douro to achieve this recognition. It also stands out for being produced at an estate with sustainability certification, awarded under the Sustainable Wine Growing Portugal program.
Organized annually by the British magazine *Decanter*, the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) are widely recognized as one of the industry's most influential wine competitions. All wines undergo blind tasting by a panel of judges—comprising Masters of Wine, winemakers, sommeliers, and international critics—following a rigorous evaluation process. This year, only 50 wines out of 18,000 entries from 57 countries worldwide received this top distinction.
About Cortes do Reguengo Tinto 2020
Crafted from three classic grape varieties (40% Touriga Nacional, 30% Tinta Roriz, and 30% Touriga Francesa), it features a ruby color and an aroma with notes of red fruit, balanced by the toasty character of the oak. It was fermented in temperature-controlled, truncated-cone stainless steel tanks and aged in French oak barrels for 18 months. On the palate, it is fruity, with smooth, well-integrated tannins and a long, persistent finish.
The recommended retail price is €13.95, and the wine is available at wine shops, specialty stores, and restaurants across the country.
