Quinta do Reguengo launches its first single-plot wine

May 1, 2025

Família Cardoso has just announced its latest wine: Cortes do Reguengo Vinha das Chãs 2023. This is a single-varietal Rabigato sourced from vines over 30 years old, planted in schist soils at an altitude of 600 meters in the Douro Superior sub-region.

It is the brand’s first single-plot wine, produced from old vines in the locality of Chãs (which gives the wine its name) in Vila Nova de Foz Côa. The Rabigato grapes were vinified with minimal intervention, aged for nine months in concrete egg-shaped vessels, and subsequently matured in the bottle—an approach designed to enhance minerality, freshness, and salinity while faithfully reflecting the terroir.

“Cortes do Reguengo Vinha das Chãs 2023 originates from a vineyard with very distinctive characteristics. It is a 100% Rabigato wine with a strong identity; we decided to bottle it exclusively in magnum format because we believe in its aging potential. We work without herbicides and practice the most respectful viticulture possible, seeking to preserve the sense of terroir and allow it to express itself in the wine. As Rabigato is an indigenous grape variety, this wine reinforces our conviction that the future lies in showcasing the very best the Douro Superior has to offer,” explains winemaker Pedro Branco.
