There’s a new way to serve Port wine this summer

July 8, 2026

Some habits are worth revisiting. Served well-chilled, over ice, or in a cocktail, White Port could be one of this summer’s great discoveries, revealing a lighter, fresher, and more versatile side of one of Portugal’s most iconic wines.

With these relaxed moments in mind, Família Cardoso suggests Cortes do Reguengo White Port, produced in the Douro Superior region from a selection of traditional white grape varieties.

Crafted using the traditional Port wine method, this white Port reveals a rich, fresh aroma characterized by floral and citrus notes. On the palate, it stands out for its balance between dryness and acidity, offering an elegant and lingering finish.

Its versatility is one of its greatest assets, allowing it to be enjoyed in various ways to suit different moments and occasions: well-chilled as an aperitif; over ice for a lighter, more refreshing option; or in a cocktail. For those wishing to try the latter, winemaker Pedro Branco offers a simple suggestion for preparing it at home:

Cortes do Reguengo Port & Tonic

1/3 Cortes do Reguengo White Port
2/3 tonic water
Lemon, orange, or lime zest (to taste)
A few mint leaves
Ice (as needed)
Preparation

Place a few ice cubes in a tall-stemmed glass. Swirl the glass slightly to chill it and discard any water that forms.

Add the lemon, lime, or orange zest (depending on preference) and pour 1/3 Cortes do Reguengo White Port over the ice and aromatics.

Top up the glass with 2/3 tonic water and stir gently to preserve the carbonation.

Finish with a few mint leaves and serve immediately. Winemaker's tip: lemon or lime zest enhances the acidity and intensifies the sensation of freshness, while orange zest gives the cocktail a more aromatic, smooth, and sweet profile.

A simple suggestion to prepare at home—requiring no complicated techniques and few ingredients—it is perfect for surprising friends and family, toasting to summer in a unique way, and rediscovering one of the great Portuguese classics.

Cortes do Reguengo White Port is available at wine shops and specialty stores nationwide with a retail price of €18.90.
